Scenic Challenge 2016-Thanks

On Sunday April 10th KCCC held its fourth annual sportive the “Scenic Challenge”. This year again the event was held in aid of international charity “Orbis”. The weather on the morning was terrible with very heavy rain and wind and no doubt our numbers suffered because of this. Still we had 160 cyclists who braved the elements to take part. The group departed Listowel at 10am and headed for Athea, where the route split. The 100k group headed for Carrigkerry, Ballyhahill, Glin and then Tarbert. The 60k group headed for Knockdown, Glin and then Tarbert. The food stop in Tarbert was most welcome on such a horrible day. The 60k route headed back into Listowel on the main N69 from Tarbert. The second half of the 100k route took the cyclists to Ballylongford, Asdee, Ballybunion and back to Listowel, where the cyclists were glad to be back at the headquarters in Listowel Community Centre.

As chairman of the club there are several people I wish to thank;
All the committee and club members that have worked so hard over the last few months to make this event possible, everybody that helped with marking the roads and putting all the signage in place, the caterers for making and serving the food, the stewards and motorbike marshals that directed the cyclists and traffic, the Irish Red Cross for medical backup on the day, Listowel Gardai for ensuring the safe passage of the cyclists through Listowel town, Kerry CC, Limerick CC, Listowel Town Council, Tarbert and Listowel Community Centre staff for their excellent help and all the club and family members that helped out in any way.
Thanks to all our sponsors for all your kind and generous contribution towards the event, Lid, Garvey Super-Valu,, Bfree and Four Star Pizza. Thanks to Adrenalin for providing the breakdown spares.
Thanks to the Kerryman and Kerry’s Eye newspapers for promoting the event and also the Advertiser who provided the lead car for the day.
Thanks to everyone at Orbis for all the work you did for us especially Ciara and Diane. We hope the proceeds from the event will help with the great work your charity does in the third world.
Finally thanks to all the cyclist that participated in the event and raised funds for Orbis. Both KCCC and Orbis are very grateful to you all for turning up to support us. We would welcome any feedback on the event via our Facebook page or by email on kerrycrusaderscc@gmail.com.
Yours sincerely,
Alfred McDonnell, Chairman KCCC.
